This highly researched and beautifully designed full colour book begins in 1961, when Michael Gotla, the owner of London based Welbeck Motors, a successful car sales and hire company, decided to venture into the new and emerging world of minicab operation. Michael was a forward thinking, flamboyant ideas man. In many ways years ahead of his time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His venture would boast the largest fleet of minicabs, all Renault Dauphines, placed into operation on the London\u2019s streets. Fitted with state-of-the-art two-way radios and adorned with never-before-seen all over advertising. With public demand being high and fares at just one shilling a mile the new business was set to be a roaring success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backed by a well known and respected millionaire Welbeck Minicabs became one of the big stories of 1961, gaining a huge (if unexpected) amount of publicity. However, unforeseen trouble lay ahead in the guise of the London taxi trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time, using Welbeck Motors own (thought to be lost) archives, the full and true account of this important part of British motoring history can finally be told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
