Get (self) published

In Getting started and Next steps you familiarised yourself with the process for getting your book ready to be self-published … now read on to explore your options.

Market and sell your book

With today’s digital publishing methods and social media outlets, producing, marketing and selling your book has become a realistic and affordable option. We can help you with all these services, but first you need to decide which options are best for you.

Printing

For most authors, seeing a printed copy of their book is a rewarding experience that they cherish. Modern day digital printing methods make it affordable to print just a handful of books. Indeed, there are specialist Print on Demand (PoD) services at large distributors such as Amazon where you can promote your book and, when they receive an order, will print a single copy, post that to the buyer and send you a portion of the proceeds.

Of course, if you can afford to, and have capacity to store printed copies of your book, the option that will appeal most and be the most profitable is to have a batch of copies printed for you to promote and sell yourself. We work with trusted printers and can deal with all the aspects of printing for you.

Do you need an ebook

eBooks

The rise of eReaders, such as Amazon’s Kindle device, allows you to market and sell online copies of your title as eBooks, either alongside a printed version or bypassing traditional printing and creating your book just in eBook format.

We produce eBooks for many of the books we work on, in different formats that can be sold for any eReader platform. If you’d like more information get in touch and we will explain the options available.

ISBN numbers and online sales

If you plan to sell copies of your book, whether eBooks online or printed versions, you will need an ISBN number. The provider for these in the UK is Nielsen ISBN store. Once registered with them you will be able to buy ISBN numbers singularly or in blocks.

ISBN numbers hold all the information for your book, information you need to supply when you allocate the numbers. You will need a separate ISBN number for each version of your book – hardback, paperback, ebook, etc.

This can be a daunting prospect for a self-publisher who is not used to the system, therefore we offer the allocation of ISBN numbers as a service. If you choose to use us we will act on your behalf, allocating ISBN numbers that are linked to Falcon and acting as the publisher on your behalf. Money for any online or physical sales would be paid directly to us and we would take a fee and pay the balance to you.
