Rambler Coaches

THE ROWLAND YEARS

The Rambler Coach Company, with its distinctive green, black and cream livery, has been a familiar sight on Britain’s roads for 100 years.

Founded by Dick Rowland in 1924 in the seaside resort of Hastings, the company grew and flourished throughout the 1930s, saw its vehicles requisitioned for service in World War II, and would go on to become one of the leading coach operators in the south of England.

Following Dick’s death in 1966 his widow Muriel, already involved in the business, was joined by son Colin. A new partner, John Goodwin, came on board in the 1970s and together they steered Rambler Coaches confidently into the present century.

Rambler Coaches, the Rowland Years is their story as told by Colin to author and archivist Stephen Dine. It will take you on a magical journey through all the astonishing social, cultural and commercial changes of this company’s rich history.
