A Partial Life

Author Chris Rolfe has, of course, not lived ‘a partial life’ at all, in fact it’s been rather a full one. So much so that he asked us to help get his life story into print.

Thank you for all your help. I’ve been extremely impressed by your service. If I knew other memoir authors, I’d definitely recommend Falcon Oast Graphics!

With best wishes,

Chris.

A well documented story

Chris’s life story, as well as being well written and an excellent read, was embellished with photos and special features throughout. All added a richness to the book but needed special consideration by our design team to make sure their inclusion worked well.

A selection of pages from ‘A Partial Life’.

Chapter openers

Many of the chapter opening pages had several elements. Although there were no chapter numbers there were headings, sometimes running into several lines, and some openers needed epigraphs with sources to fit in with the established chapter drop to the first line of text.

Handwritten sections

In several places throughout the book Chris had parts of letters written by different authors. These letters needed a separate style that would make them instantly recognisable, standing out from the main text. We settled on a clean but lively font, indenting the copy slightly and ranging it left to give the look of a handwritten letter.

Pictures throughout

Chris’s story was embellished with pictures throughout. The images were given a clean cut style with a centred caption below by way of explanation and needed to appear in the text as close to where they were mentioned as possible.

Completing the jigsaw

Combining all the elements for Chris’s book created a beautifully told story. A book which we were proud to put our name to, and one which Chris was proud to release to the public as the story of his life.

Our last task was to create a cover that sold the book to interested readers, and then to get printed copies made up and delivered ready for the book sales to commence.
