Cooks Coaches
THE STORY OF A SUSSEX VILLAGE OPERATOR
This is the story of a Sussex village-based coach company which, like many others, started operations soon after the Second World War.
The next seven decades saw enormous changes, both commercially and in the way passengers chose to travel, with the company enjoying the peak of its success in the 1960s.
What made Cooks Coaches unusual was the husband and wife team of Wilf and Jean Tomsett whose business this was. Jean also drove the coaches – a rare sight in the 1950s when almost all commercial drivers were men.
This book delves into a little piece of history when our roads were a more pleasant and sedate way to journey by coach.
