Jingle Alder Hey

In October 2017 we were approached by author Linda O’Mallan who had written a short Christmas story and wanted to get it published and produce printed copies and an ebook that could be sold to raise funds for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

Linda had already enlisted the help of illustrator Alison Burton to produce the illustrations for the book and needed our help to put the project together. We were only too happy to help such a worthy cause and offered our services free of charge.

Creating the book design

Once we had the copy and illustrations the first step was to design the page layout. Although children’s books look fairly simplistic in layout the font is key to the success of the book. Having produced many children’s books in the past, at Falcon we have a good knowledge of what fonts work well, being clear and easy to read but also fun and not too ‘adult’.

The page design was agreed and Linda’s supplied material was flowed in and the book made up to fit neatly into 64 pages.

How about a cover?

With the interior pages approved we needed to design the cover. Linda supplied a short synopsis of the story for the back cover and the main full page image was used for the front cover design and agreed ready for printing.

…and finally

With final pages and the cover approved and ready to go it was time to send the files to print and go ahead with producing the ebook. At Falcon we have a good working relationship with several printers and the printed copies of ‘Jingle Alder Hey’ were with Alder Hey Hospital within a week ready to be put on sale.

If you’d like a copy of the ebook it’s available on Amazon now. Please click the following link. All proceeds go to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
